YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AND POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS in High Energy Theoretical and Observational Astrophysics
We invite applications for a FAPESP (Sao Paulo Research Foundation) OUTSDANDING YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANT AND ALSO FOR POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS to begin in 2015 at the Instituto de Astronomia, Geofisica e Ciencias Atmosfericas of University of Sao Paulo (IAG-USP) to work on the project “Investigation of High Energy and Plasma Astrophysics Phenomena: Theory, Numerical Simulations, Observations, and Instrument Development for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA)”. The goal is to study magneto-hydrodynamics and high energy phenomena in stars, compact objects, galaxies and clusters of galaxies employing analytic and numerical techniques, and also get deeply involved in the CTA and the ASTRI-CTA Mini-Array Projects. Particular emphasis will be given to studies of cosmic ray accelerators, cosmic magnetic fields and turbulence, galactic outflows, relativistic jets, and the science program development for the CTA and ASTRI-CTA Mini-Array. Applicants with interests and experience in any of the above fields, and with familiarity with magneto-hydrodynamical and PIC codes are particularly encouraged to apply.
IAG-USP is a leading Institute of excellence in Astrophysics and Cosmology in Brazil and Latin America, with a staff of 32 professors, 30 postdocs, over 60 graduate students, and an international visitors program. The successful candidates will have access to excellent computing infrastructure.
